| In late 2004, the Executive Committee approved
the creation of a trade school based scholarship or grant. This
would replace the Citizenship Awards and would focus on the
large community segment of students that did not elect to
immediately pursue an academic career. The program has been
enthusiastically supported by the Superintendant of Schools,
Patricia McGeehan, as well as local trade union endorsement.
While details of the program were being formulated, it was
decided that the 2005 Citizenship Award would continue as a
transition to be replaced in 2006 with the trade focused
programs. The first "Trade Award" was announced in 2006.
It was named in honor of an officer's late father, John
Dorans Vocational/Technical Award to be offered at Bayonne High
School to an eligible senior. It would be paid directly to the
institution by the Lions Club.
