  Education 2004/07

The Bayonne Lions have historically been supportive of education through the three Citizenship Awards granted annually.

Lions began a partnership with the Bayonne Board of Education. In 2004, Lions sponsored a Chair at the newly renovated Bayonne High School. Building on this, Lions, through its then President Matthew Dorans, sponsored Book Buddies at a local elementary school.

The culmination of this partnership will be the Trade School Scholarships for those who do not pursue academic careers. The format was announced in 2005, the first grant was announced in 2006.

Eyeglass Pickup 2004/07

In 2004 it became clear that the current drop-off practice for eyeglasses was not effective. The Bayonne Lions embarked on a new local approach to replace the central drop-off at the Bayonne City Hall.

The move to regionalize our local drop came with donations of extra VSPS mailboxes identified as Lions eyewear drop-offs inspired by Lions Clubs in Granford, Roselle Park, and Sayersville.

Mailboxes will be placed eventually at the two high traffic areas in town, Stop & Shop off Rt. 440 and Shoprite on 26th Street. A&P declined participation on North St. at this time.
